Alto is a Premier Softball Park in Northwest Georgia
Alto Park Softball Complex is a 68-acre park located in West Rome, Georgia. It is home to the Shorter University softball team and is also a popular destination for community softball leagues and tournaments. The complex features lighted softball fields, a playground, a picnic pavilion, and a volleyball court.
There are actually eight softball fields. Five are dedicated, as noted above – Lighted and renovated – Then on another hub, there are three more. One is Shorter University’s field, then there are two more regulation softball fields which are often used in tournaments.
The Alto Park Softball Complex was built in 1995 and underwent a major renovation in 2013. The renovation included upgraded lighting and a new press box. The complex is now one of the premier softball facilities in the state of Georgia. The park’s concession stand is top-notch – Freshly grilled burgers and a wide variety of food. Landscaping is well taken care of, and the layout of the park is easy to navigate.
Be aware: Parking is an issue at Alto Park. There isn’t enough space near the fields where most tournaments are held. Quite often, supplemental parking is used down a hill in grass fields – This is a hike to the most-used fields. During two-or-more-day tournaments, many parking spaces are taken up by campers and RV’s.
It’s a short drive to restaurants and grocery stores in Rome from Alto Park. Tip: If you’re team has a long break between games, head downtown to Moe’s Original BBQ – Very local, affordable, and great food! Perfect layout for a team lunch, and has plenty of menu options.
The Shorter University softball team has called Alto Park Softball Complex home since 1995. The Lady Hawks have won four Southern States Athletic Conference championships and have made three appearances in the NCAA Division II National Tournament.
Alto Park Softball Complex is also a popular destination for community softball leagues and tournaments. The complex hosts a variety of leagues and tournaments throughout the year, including the Rome-Floyd Softball Association, the Rome Youth Softball Association, and the Rome Women’s Softball League.
