This park, with its eight softball fields, is a sad case. It is well thought-out, and has the potential to be one of the good ones. However – Right now, Lutz Sports Complex is not a good place to play the game, even at best.
The park and fields appear to be quite new. The City of Arvada is apparently the governing body of the fields and park. There is an indoor facility of sorts next to the fields, but this review will only focus on the softball fields.
What’s good about the park? The fields at Lutz park are fairly well maintained. At least the outfields are. That’s about all this visitor can say for it, after spending several days there during the Colorado Sparkler in June/July of 2022.
What’s wrong with Lutz Park in Arvada? Where should we begin?
- There are eight softball fields at Lutz. There is one restroom facility – One each for women, one each for men – For the entire park.
- No concessions facility. Be prepared – Bring plenty of food and beverages if you’re playing at this one.
- Rock-hard infields.
- Zero shade: No shading over the field bleachers; No trees to provide any type of shade. No visitor pavilions.
- Incredibly poor pitching rubbers on all fields with extremely soft and deep pitching holes. Hopefully, the City of Arvada has plenty of liability insurance to cover injured pitchers.
- Parking lot is dirt.
- No scoreboards on any fields.
- No fan protection at all – No netting and fairly narrow backstop fences. Bring a hardhat.
Perhaps there are future plans for the park. During our visit there, it certainly wasn’t apparent that anything more to help the park is in the works.
